Looking for creative ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year? Take a departure from traditional margaritas and try some with an Italian twist! In honor of my first Cinco de Mayo living in Sicily, here are 5 Margarita recipes with just a little bit of Italy in them!
Italian Margarita
Ingredients:
2 oz Tequila
1 1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 - 1 oz Amaretto
Lemon, lime or orange wheels
Sugar for rimming the glass
Directions:
Use a piece of the cut lime to wet the rim of your glass. Pour a thin layer of sugar onto a small plate and press the rim of the glass onto the plate. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Pour over ice and garnish with a slice of lemon or lime. A little Italy, a little Mexico. Olé!
Serve in:
Margarita glass or small tumbler
Prickly Pear Margarita
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Cointreau
1 1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1 Tbsp Prickly Pear juice
Lime wedge (optional)
Sugar for rimming the glass
Directions:
Use a piece of lime to wet the rim of your glass and press or roll it onto a plate of sugar. Add all drink ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake it up. Pour over ice. Garnish with lime wedge or leave it plain to let the prickly pear juice shine!
Serve in:
Margarita glass, short tumbler, or small mason jar
Blood Orange Margarita
Ingredients:
2 oz Tequila
1 1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 Ounce Simple Syrup
1 - 2 oz Fresh Blood Orange Juice
Dehydrated blood orange wheel
Sugar and orange zest
Directions:
Use a piece of lime to wet the rim of your glass. Combine a tablespoon of sugar with a small amount of orange zest on a plate and press or roll the rim of your glass into it. Combine the liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously and pour over ice. Make it super fancy by garnishing with a dehydrated orange wheel!
Serve in:
Margarita glass
Limoncello Margarita
Ingredients;
2 oz Tequila
2 oz Creamy Limoncello
1 1/2 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Lemon Juice
1/2 oz Simple Syrup or Agave Nectar
1/2 cup crushed ice
Lemon slices and zest
Directions:
Use a cut lemon to wet the rim of your glass. Combine a small amount of sugar and lemon zest on a plate and press or roll the rim of your glass into it. Add liquid ingredients and ice to a cocktail shaker, and shake until your hand gets cold. Pour into glass. Garnish with a lemon slice and pucker up!
Serve in:
Margarita or martini glass
Red Wine Margarita
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Tequila
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
3/4 oz Simple Syrup
1/2 oz Red Wine
Lime wheel for garnish
Directions:
Add tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker, fill with ice and shake until your hand gets cold. Strain the liquid into a glass. Pour the red wine over the back of a spoon to create a very cool layered effect!
Serve in:
Margarita glass or other stemmed glass
